Chronic leg swelling and heaviness occur when veins in the legs cannot efficiently return blood to the heart. This condition, known as chronic venous insufficiency (CVI), causes fluid to accumulate in the lower legs and ankles. Patients often notice their symptoms worsen throughout the day, especially after sitting or standing for extended periods.

Diagnostic venous ultrasound to identify the source of insufficiency
Endovenous Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA) to close malfunctioning veins
Sclerotherapy for smaller contributing veins
Compression therapy and lifestyle modifications
Chronic swelling and heaviness are not a normal part of aging. When caused by venous insufficiency, these symptoms typically worsen over time and can progress to skin damage, non-healing wounds, and significant quality-of-life impact.
